Essex v Glamorgan Vitality Blast Preview

After a historic win over Middlesex with Glamorgan's first ever Vitality Blast match at Lord's Cricket Ground last night, Glamorgan travel to the County Ground in Chelmsford today to face Essex.

Glamorgan skipper Sam Northeast who made 67 said: “Lord’s is always a special place to play. It was a fantastic atmosphere tonight. It got a bit nervy at one stage, but we managed to get over the line for an important win for us.

“I didn’t see the first ball of our innings (Eddie Byrom’s dismissal). I was still getting my kit out of my bag. I heard a cheer, stopped rummaging around and just rushed out there. You’ve just got to stay calm, see what’s going on and get the measure of the pitch.

“Kiran played an unbelievable knock and got the momentum going. I just took my lead from him to be honest.

“We are not quite hitting our peak yet, especially as a batting unit. We’ve put around 180 on the board three times without quite hitting our straps.

“The  bowlers did unbelievably well to claw it back like that after they (Middlesex) got off to a bit of a flier in the powerplay. Mason (Crane) just keeps doing it and I’m sure one or two Hundred teams will be sniffing around him, but we’d quite like to keep him for the 50-over comp.

“You don’t get too many triple wicket maidens. Timm (Van der Gugten) bowled brilliantly.”
