On Foot

The most popular and pleasant means of reaching Sophia Gardens Cardiff from Cardiff Central Station is on foot. The final part of the 15-minute leisurely stroll takes you along the banks of the River Taff through Bute Park and the grounds of Cardiff Castle.


Cycling

A popular way to travel to the Stadium is by bicycle and we are in the ideal location to do so i.e. via the Taff Trail which runs from Cardiff Bay to Brecon. The Stadium has 25 cycle parking spaces located underneath the Altodigital stand, and 10 spaces by Gate Two. Copies of the Cardiff cycle map are available by contacting cycle@cardiff.gov.uk

By Bus

Cardiff Bus services run regularly between Cardiff Central Station and Cathedral Road (adjacent to Sophia Gardens Cardiff) Routes going via Cathedral Road include:

  • Number 25 Circular Service to Llandaff North and North Road
  • Number 62 Service to Llandaff, Danescourt, Pentrebane, Fairwater & Canton.
  • Number 63 service Ffordd Berllan, Central Station, Radyr to Llandaff.

By Road

From London
Travel time is approximately 3 hours via the M4 Westbound.

From Birmingham
Travel time is approximately 2.5 hours via M5 Southbound and then the M4 Westbound.

From the East
Exit the M4 at Junction 29 and follow the A48M towards Llandaff. Join Cardiff Road. Sophia Gardens Cardiff is situated off Sophia Close which is on Cathedral Road.

From the West
Exit the M4 at Juntion 33. Follow the A4232 for 6.2 miles and exit on the slip road onto Leckwith Road. Follow the A4161 and then turn left onto Cathedral Road (A4119). Turn right onto Sophia Close where Sophia Gardens Cardiff is situated.

Match-day Car Parking

Public Car Parking
Parking inside the Stadium on match days is limited to players, officials and permit holders only. Public car parking is available in the Sophia Gardens Pay and Display car park situated within Sophia Close.

Disabled Parking
A limited number of disabled parking bays are available for every match day held at the Stadium and these are allocated on an application basis. For more details please contact reception on 02920 419 381 or info@glamorgancricket.co.uk

Park and Ride
Glamorgan Cricket do operate a Park and Ride service on international and other major match days. This service usually runs from Cardiff City Stadium to the drop off point in Sophia Close.

There are bus stops at various junctures along the Oystermouth Road, with a short walk to the ground once you get off at the stop.


By Road
  • Leave M4 motorway at Junction 42
  • Follow A483 to traffic lights and join A4067, signposted Gower
  • Follow A4067 for approximately 2 miles
  • St Helen's will be on the right-hand side

Match-day Car Parking

There is a limited amount of disabled parking near the ground. Please contact Reception at Glamorgan Cricket on 02920 409 380 to enquire about availability.

For standard parking, please follow the directions to the Recreation Ground

  • Leave M4 motorway at Junction 42
  • Follow A483 to traffic lights and join A4067, signposted Gower
  • Follow A4067 for approximately 2 miles
  • After passing St Helen's Rugby and Cricket Ground on the right, at the next set of traffic lights turn right onto Brynmill Lane
  • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit (turn back on yourself) back to the lights
  • Turn left at the traffic lights and the recreation ground is less than 100m on the left-hand side
  • This parking is pay and display - please pay the attendant

NEWPORT
 

Newport Cricket Club, Spytty Park

By Train

Take the Great Western Service to Newport Gwent, which is on the main South Wales to London Paddington Line.

Travel times to Newport train station:

From London              90 mins
From Swansea             1 hour
From Cardiff               20 mins
From Bristol Parkway 30 mins

There are regular taxis directly outside the station which will cost about £5 each way to Newport International Sports Village (NISV)

From train station, go to Stand 12 at Friars Walk Bus Station, Bus 42 or 43, ask the driver to let you know when coming to SDR stop for NISV. Short walk across the public walkway bridge to get to Newport International Sports Village.

By Bus

Newport International Sport Village (NISV) has a number of transport buses (services 42 and 43) that travel past the northern perimeter of the site via the A48.

Go to Stand 12 at Friars Walk Bus Station, Bus 42 or 43, ask the driver to let you know when coming to SDR stop for NISV. Short walk across the public walkway bridge to get to Newport International Sports Village.


By Road

From M4 motorway, take Junction 24.

At the roundabout take 4th exit (from Cardiff and West) or take 1st exit (from London and East) signposted A48 Newport City Centre and Newport International Sports Village (NISV).

Continue along the distributor road (dual carriageway) for about 2 miles passing Tesco and Citroen garage on left-hand side. (Follow brown tourist Sports Council signs for the NISV)

Turn left at Carcraft and take next left into Newport International Sports Village.
