Glamorgan v Surrey

Glamorgan’s Vitality Blast match against Surrey ended without a result after persistent rain meant that only 21.3 overs were possible.

Surrey batted first and posted 160 for nine from their 20 overs thanks to 48 not out from Jamie Overton and 31 from Sam Curran.

It looked as if Surrey would struggle to make it passed 150 after Glamorgan put on the squeeze in the middle overs, but big hitting from Overton saw them post a very competitive score.

Glamorgan had made it to 9 for none before the rain arrived and despite the best efforts of the ground staff, they couldn’t get back out there to finish the game.

Having been put into bat Surrey got off to a quick start thanks to a 38-run partnership between Jason Roy and Will Jacks. Things changed rapidly when Michael Neser bowled both openers in the space of three balls to bring Glamorgan back into the game.

Surrey rebuilt with Sam Curran making 31 from 30 balls to hold things together for the visitors as regular wickets fell. Curran could have been dismissed on 15 when he creamed a cut shot off Douthwaite straight to Kiran Carlson. It travelled so fast that Carlson couldn’t get a hand to it with the ball hitting him on the chest.

Tidy bowling from Prem Sisodiya and Marnus Labuschagne in the middle overs saw Surrey reach 102 for six after 15 overs. From there it was the Overton show with the all-rounder hitting four sixes on his way to a career best score. Overton made full use of the short straight boundaries in Cardiff as he raced along at a strike rate of 228.

Glamorgan had batted 1.3 overs when rain arrived to take the players from the field. The showers passed long enough for the covers to come back off and a restart to be scheduled but the rain returned as the players walked out to resume play.

The no result means Surrey have dropped points for the first time this season having won their opening four matches of the tournament.
