12-man squad named for Worcestershire fixture

Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 12-man squad for the Specsavers County Championship fixture against Worcestershire on Sunday.

Lukas Carey returns to the squad, with Marchant de Lange rested due to the ongoing load management of the fast bowlers. Roman Walker is called up to his first County Championship squad of the season after making his List A debut in the televised Royal London One-Day Cup game against Sussex, where he hit a six to win the game for Glamorgan.

Charlie Hemphrey has been omitted from the squad with his wife due to give birth over the coming days and all-rounder Owen Morgan is likely to open in his place.

Fellow all-rounder Graham Wagg has been a pivotal part of Glamorgan’s side this season and currently sits in third place in Glamorgan's Championship batting averages, with 356 runs at an average of nearly 51, which included a destructive century at Swansea and also taken 12 wickets.

Having made his professional debut in 2000, Wagg has been big part of many dressing rooms and says that this side has something special he's not often seen before.

"The battle we have this year is what is best about this side. I hate talking about the past but I've played in games like that before where we would have folded and that’s every team I’ve played in.

"The fight we’ve shown, the bowlers have done a fantastic job this season and the batters have put in some good performances. We’ve had some good draws and then won a couple of thrilling games."

Wagg hit the winning runs against Gloucestershire that maintained Glamorgan's unbeaten start to the season and was impressed by the team's character in the fightback.

"It was a special moment to win that game. It was looking like a draw, after sticking them in at 168/1 after Day 1. We didn’t bowl as well as we should’ve but the way we came back and fought and put ourselves in a position to win that game and the way we chased it was unreal.

"I thought Marnus played really well and a couple of others did well but it’s always nice to hit the winning runs."

"I’ve felt in good form. There’s still a long way to go and I’m always trying to learn. There’s been some bowling spells I haven’t been happy with, but with the bat I’ve felt in really good form and a couple of vital wickets, it’s good to contribute and be playing four day cricket again and good to be getting back here."

After an 11-week absence, Glamorgan and Wagg will be looking to settle in at Sophia Gardens ahead of back-to-back home games before the break for Vitality Blast action.

"It was strange walking back into the dressing room! The nets were fantastic, it’s good to be back, we’ve missed this place. We’ve played some good cricket away from home and now it’s time to play some good stuff at home."
