13-man squad named for final Vitality Blast clash

17 Jul 2021 | Cricket

Head Coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad to take on Hampshire Hawks (Sunday, 2.30pm start).

Joe Cooke replaces Michael Neser in the only change from the 13 named for the clash against Somerset on Friday night, with Cooke making his first appearance in a Vitality Blast squad.

Marnus Labuschagne will make his final appearance for Glamorgan in 2021, before heading back to Australia to begin pre-season preparations for Queensland.

Glamorgan's last game at The Ageas Bowl saw the hosts win in 2019, but Glamorgan also faced Hampshire in their final game of that season and took a dominant win at Sophia Gardens.

The Hawks come into the game in good form, having won two games on Friday against Sussex and Essex, with recent England centurion James Vince adding another ton to his tally in a heavy run-scoring week for the Hawks captain.

View from the camp - Chris Cooke

"Spin in the middle overs has been our Achilles heel in this competition so we need to sort that out over the winter.

"A lot of our experienced guys haven’t stepped up and it makes it difficult to go on a run when the batsmen aren’t performing.

"Roman Walker has been brilliant and he was outstanding again tonight.

"We need to target a really strong start to this competition next season but it would be nice to sign off this year with a win at Hampshire.

"I’ll be disappointed if people aren’t motivated for that because we are still playing for Glamorgan."
