An unbeaten century from Chris Cooke, and half-centuries from David Lloyd and Kiran Carlson, helped Glamorgan reach 326/7 at the close of Day 1 in the LV= Insurance County Championship clash against Northamptonshire.
Leading from the front, Cooke hit his second century of the season as he finished on 107*, and he was happy with his sides effort in a relatively even affair.
“It was a good contest between bat and ball. They bent their back and when they got the ball in the right areas there was enough there.
“But saying that there were times when the ball went soft and the pitch went flat and it became easy to score and get some momentum going. It maybe wasn’t an easy wicket to start on but once you got through that it got a bit easier."
With support from the in-form Carlson, coming off the back of twin centuries against Sussex, and Lloyd, promoted up the order this year, kept providing Glamorgan momentum to get through any tough periods and Cooke praised the pair for their efforts so far.
“Lloydy has been promoted up the order and starts us off with some nice intent, which is exactly what we want. He puts the bad ball away and got us off to a positive start.
“Kiran is hitting the ball like a pea. He’s put a lot of hard work in over the winter and is in real good nick. Hopefully he can make that really count and be really greedy with it.
“The first half an hour is important tomorrow then maybe we can open up at some point after that and try and get up to the 350 mark.”
Lloyd also provided some thoughts on Day 1, after he hit his second half-century of the campaign so far, and he was happy with the team's performance after the opening day.
"It's been a great day for us as a batting unit after losing the toss. Nick and myself getting a 50 partnership and batting for the first hour made things a little easier for the middle order.
