Glamorgan Cricket can announce that batsman Ben Wright will retire from professional first-class cricket at the end of the season to pursue other employment opportunities.
The talented right-hander represented England U19s between 2005 and 2007, scored 72 on debut for Glamorgan in 2006 and went on to win his county cap in 2011, amassing 3684 first-class runs for the Welsh county.
With six first-class centuries to his name, his career-best 172 came against Gloucestershire at The SSE SWALEC in 2010 and he achieved three-figures against the same opposition last year in the LV=County Championship match at Bristol in brisk fashion.
Notable limited-overs performances included his crucial innings against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl which helped Glamorgan reach the Lord's final of the Yorkshire Bank40 in 2013, as well as his List A top score of 79 against Lancashire Lightning at Colwyn Bay in 2010.
After giving it a huge amount of consideration over the last couple of months, I have decided to retire at the end of the season and take up an offer of employment from Press Metal UK. said Ben.
It has not been an easy decision, but I'm very excited to be starting a fresh challenge.
I would like to thank everybody at Glamorgan CCC for all of the support I have received over the past 10 years at the Club, it has been a privilege to wear the Daff.
I would also like to thank my family and everybody else who has been involved in my career, including players, coaches, medical and support staff as well as the PCA.
Glamorgan Chief Executive, Hugh Morris said, Ben has been a true professional and will be missed both in the dressing room and with his skills on the field. I am delighted he has found an opportunity outside of the game to secure his long-term future.
