Stand-in skipper Beth Gammon's rallying call to the team paid off on Saturday, as Glamorgan Women won their first ever match in a reduced one-day format against Sussex.
Rightly proud of the character and drive within the coaches and players, she spoke of what was a big week leading up to the fixture.
--------------------
Beth, an outstanding performance from yourself today and the team. What you make of the performance?
BETH: Oh, I couldn't have been happier with how everyone contributed and the attitude that they walked out onto the pitch with today. We knew today was a massive day for us as Glamorgan - and in Wales, so to see how much effort and how much pride everyone had putting on the shirts for the first time. I couldn't be more proud of everyone.
And yourself, when you went out to bat you looked positive from ball one. You look to attack every ball and run every single. With this game being reduced to a 25 over game, was that the game plan or just the way you like to play?
BETH: I think I'm naturally a busy player. I like to tick over. I'm really fortunate that the group of coaches and players back us and back us to do our strengths to the best of our ability. So, it's nice to go out there and know that whatever you do, the team is backing you to do it.
I was fortunate that the openers got us off to a really good start, and then me and Gem Porter put on a really good partnership then that almost gave us a bit of a platform to start searching for the boundary a little bit more.
You were thrust into the Captain role this week with Lauren Parfitt unfortunately being injured. But how much does it mean to you to lead this team in the first ever Glamorgan Women's game - and to a victory as well?
BETH: I probably can't put into words how much it means. Growing up, my heroes looking up to were the likes of Clare Nicholas and Lauren Parfitt, who I’ve been fortunate enough to have been captained by.
So, to have an opportunity to be in their shoes was just one of... you know, you’re never going to say no to it... albeit there were a few nerves, because I knew how important and how much it meant to everyone. But yeah, I just feel an immense amount of pride in standing here with a Glamorgan shirt on. It’s something that, you know, a moment that I'm going to remember for a very long time.

Your standards in the field today ... the standard of bowling as well from the attack was excellent throughout the game. What did you say to the group and to the bowlers to drive those high standards?
BETH: My message to the group was, “Show me how much you want this..” - and evidently it showed that we were massively determined to get this first win on the board.
They showed that through attitudes, through diving around, through bowling great areas.
For us, you know, we, you know, we want to be a successful team and we want to be a team that backs whoever's got the ball in hand - and the energy level from the pitch, but also from the sideline with the crowd as well, was, you know, tremendous and definitely got us over the line today.
Final question ... after a really exciting start to Glamorgan Women's cricket here, how far can this group go? How exciting is it for this group to get a first win under your belt and to build on this season and going forward in years to come?
BETH: It's important for us. You know, you thrive off confidence when you put in winning performances. Look, it's an incredibly long season and we're fully aware of that.
So, we're going to take the positives from today. We know there's still bits that we want to refine and work on as well - and hopefully throughout the weeks and training now we put that into place.
We come back next week at Newport against Middlesex and we put those things right.
And we continue to take this confidence and momentum to kick onwards. We’ll see where we end up after the first few games.
