Rachel Priest's Glamorgan Women's Team have today booked their place at Vitality Blast Final’s Day, thanks to a nine wicket win over Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens.
Glamorgan chased down Gloucestershire’s 115 total in glorious South Wales sunshine with 6.2 overs to spare. Standing strong were power duo Bethan Ellis [67 not out] and Bethan Gammon [40 not out], with a crowd eclipsing 1,000 in the first ever Women’s Team Blast match at Sophia Gardens.
The result sees Glamorgan travel to the County Ground in Northampton on Saturday 26 July to compete in the Vitality last League Two Semi-Finals, with the aim to reach the Final the same day.
Joining them from the South Group are the Middlesex Women’s Team. Results next week will determine which of the two finishes top of the group. Glamorgan host Kent Spitfires at 2:30pm on Friday night, while Middlesex travel to Gloucestershire on Sunday 20 July.
Bethan Gammon: “It was a great win and we’re really happy to get over the line on a nice day. We were glad to make a good start to today’s double header.
“When myself and Bethan [Ellis] were out there, we had the same mentality of keeping really positive. That’s the brand of cricket we’re trying to play in T20, and that’s the way we went about it. Fortunately, we knocked the runs off with some time to spare, which always helps us from a run-rate perspective, but also to boost morale in the camp.
“Our bowlers throughout the competition have been tremendous; working to very low economies and consistently taking wickets throughout the innings. We’re really fortunate that both seamers and spinners did exceptionally today. We just wanted to go out there as batters and keep up our end of the bargain.
“Getting to the Finals means a huge amount. When you look back to when we all started back in November, to now with the hard work – not just by the players but by the staff and by Glamorgan. We’ve got a massive sense of pride being here. We’re a part of the Club and we want to take the Club to Finals Day and represent them with pride.”
