Glamorgan Cricket is delighted to confirm that the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff will host the First Investec Ashes Test Match of the 2015 Series, starting on Wednesday 8th July.
The England & Wales Cricket Board today confirmed the full international programme for the summer of 2015 with tours by New Zealand and Australia

Cardiff's SWALEC Stadium will host the opening Investec Ashes Test Match of the five-match series as it did in 2009 when England's last pair of James Anderson and Monty Panesar mounted a famous rearguard action which enabled England to draw a gripping Ashes encounter. England and Australia will also do battle in a NatWest IT20 fixture at the Cardiff venue on Monday 31st August 2015.

Glamorgan Cricket Chief Executive Hugh Morris, said:

Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to be hosting the opening Investec Ashes Test which promises to be an exciting and hugely anticipated contest, as one the world's most renowned sporting rivalries resumes in Cardiff.

As in 2009, the Investec Ashes Series will be one of the major highlights of the sporting year, with huge crowds and superb action on the field. The iconic scenes of Monty Panesar and Jimmy Anderson's last wicket stand was one of the great memories of that Series and vital in the eventual outcome of the 2009 Ashes.

To follow the Ashes Test Match with a NatWest IT20 fixture between the two teams completes a fantastic international programme for us next year and with a Royal London One-Day International between England and India on 27th August this year, cricket supporters can see world's best cricketer's in Wales in all three formats of the game in a 12 month period.

Rt Hon Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales said:

This is fantastic news for Wales. We proved the critics wrong when we hosted the opening Test Match here in 2009 and are becoming renowned for our ability to successfully stage some of the highest profile events in the world.

Attracting major events not only boosts our international profile, but has clear benefits for our economy. The 2009 series alone is estimated to have brought in around £2.4million to Wales.

I'm sure cricket fans across Wales will be delighted by this news and I hope it will inspire a new generation of fans to take up the sport and get behind their local county cricket team.

Demand for match tickets for the Investec Ashes Test Match is sure to be massively oversubscribed once more, with tickets on sale from September 2014.
