As the 2024 season fast approaches, we caught up with Glamorgan legend Chris Cooke as he gears up for a new season, a new Head Coach, and his Testimonial year!
How has the winter been so far and what has the squad been doing?
After a nice break in October, the squad reported back for full training in November for the much-anticipated fitness testing, and also a return to full practice mode. We’ve all had our individual fitness targets for the winter block, and it’s been great to see everyone trying to get a couple of percent better in every department. After Christmas, the intensity has been ramped up a notch with the season now in sight.
Are you excited to work with new Head Coach, Grant Bradburn?
The news of Grant being announced as the new Head Coach has definitely excited the squad. I personally don’t know Grant, but from what I hear, he sounds like a fantastic appointment, and I can’t wait to get to know him and learn what I can from his undoubted experience.
What are you most looking forward to in 2024?
Two trips to Lord’s and a return to Neath and Cheltenham are the stand-out fixtures on the calendar. I’m looking forward to consolidating on last year's red ball promotion push, and I think as a Club we should be targeting white ball knock-out games. Lifting a trophy is my main motivation for this year, and I believe we aren’t far away at all.
2024 will be a well-earned Testimonial year for you, what have you got planned?
2024 is also a big year off the field for me as I enter into a testimonial year. It’s an absolute privilege and I’m grateful to the Club for awarding it to me. We have some exciting events planned, with an opening dinner at Lord’s Long Room on 9th February. There still are some places available so please visit www.chriscooketestimonial.co.uk for more information on Lord’s, and everything else!
