Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that wicketkeeper batter Chris Cooke will be staying at the Club for another 2 years.
Chris made an immediate impact on his debut in Glamorgan’s first XI in 2011 announcing himself to Sophia Gardens with sixes from his second, third and fourth balls in a T20 against Middlesex.
Since then, Cooke has become an integral senior member of the squad both behind the stumps and in the middle-order in all formats and has been celebrating his testimonial year in 2024.
He has shared in a number of all-time record partnerships in first-class cricket including an unbeaten 307 for the fifth wicket with Kiran Carlson against Northamptonshire at Sophia Gardens in 2021 and an unbeaten 461 with Sam Northeast against Leicestershire at Grace Road in 2022.
Cooke is one of only three Glamorgan batters to score a century in all three formats: first-class, List A and T20 cricket. He holds the Club record for T20 appearances with 161 to his name with a strike rate of 140.75*.
He also set the record for Glamorgan's fastest T20 century when he scored a century off 38 balls against Middlesex at Merchant Taylors' School in 2023.
After 144 first-class games, Cooke also has an impressive 339 dismissals to his name and 115 dismissals in a total of 165 T20 matches. Cooke said the following about staying at Glamorgan: “I’m thrilled to play for Glamorgan for another 2 years, as it’s a really exciting time to be involved with the Club."
“I have a lot more to give on and off the field and I feel that my best cricket is still ahead of me.”
Glamorgan Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace added: “Chris has been a fantastic player for Glamorgan and comfortably the best wicketkeeper batter the Club has ever had.
“He is a leader in our dressing room and a positive influence on the whole Club and we’re delighted to have him with us for the foreseeable future.”
