Club Watch - Wales Premier Club Cricket Weekend 13

29 Jul 2025 | Cricket

The 13th weekend of Premier League club cricket concluded in Wales, with the men's North Wales Premier League returning after a month-long break, and the continuation of the men's and women's South Wales Premier Leagues.

South Wales men's Premier League table-toppers Newport CC won a low-scoring thriller against Usk CC, managing to defend 168 thanks to some quality spin bowling from Tomos Barry and Salman Saeed. St. Fagans CC continued their spirited effort in defending their league title, with a 202-run thrashing of Ammanford CC, with former Glamorgan One-Day Cup winner Steven Reingold hitting a century, backed up with the ball by Andy Gorvin who gave away only 14 runs, picking up two wickets in the process, in his 7-over spell. Glamorgan U18 regular Zac Williams and former Glamorgan player Owen Morgan picked up 3-fers to dismantle the Tom Bevan-led Ammanforf CC batting line-up.

Former Sri Lanka U19 all-rounder Caniston Gunaratnam, now studying at the University of South Wales and playing for Pontarddulais CC, scored a century for his club in a 7-wicket win against Cardiff CC. The men's North Wales Premier League returned after a month-long break, with Menai Bridge CC recording the biggest win, by a margin of 188 runs against Bethesda CC. Smit Parekh's 6-25 helped Bangor CC beat Conwy CC by 154 runs. Brymbo CC recorded a thrilling 4-run over Denbigh CC, while Mochdre CC continued their ascend in the table.

Over in the women's South Wales Premier League, young keeper-batter Elizabeth Cox scored a hundred for The Panthers in their 104-run win against Radyr CC, while Pembroke CC beat Newport CC by 35 runs. In the men's Welsh Cup quarter-final, holders St. Fagans CC were knocked out by Clydach CC, thanks to a great display of fast-bowling from the Swansea valley club's Pakistani overseas Ahmed Bashir.
