As the club cricket season entered its fourth weekend in Wales, clouds and passing showers made the volunteers, players and ground staff rush to put the covers on and off throughout the Saturday. However, all ten games across the men’s South Wales Premier Cricket League and North Wales Premier Cricket League managed to get results, with the women’s South Wales Premier Cricket League having a rest this Sunday.
Glamorgan 2nd XI regular Tom Norton scored an unbeaten hundred for his home club Abergavenny CC, as they chased Swansea CC’s target of 223 with 7 wickets remaining. Abergavenny CC’s Australian recruit Josh Spies picked up 4 wickets to restrict Swansea CC to a score of 222.
Bridgend Town CC made light work of Ynystawe CC’s chase of 210, with former Glamorgan Academy fast-bowler Tomos Jones picking up a 4-fer in Bridgend Town CC’s 8-wicket win.
Wales national county all-rounder Rhodri Lewis’s 132, along with former Glamorgan player Owen Morgan’s 72, saw St. Fagans CC chase a steep target of 316 against Ammanford CC, for whom Jamie McIlroy took 3 wickets.
Billy Root scored an unbeaten 74 in Usk CC’s win over Newport CC, which also saw Glamorgan 2nd XI player Ollie Rayner score 52. In reply, Cardiff UCCE coach and former Glamorgan Academy player Michael Clayden scored 81 runs, which wasn’t enough as Usk CC recorded a 94-run win.
