Colin Ingram signs contract extension

30 Nov 2020 | Cricket

Glamorgan Cricket is delighted to announce that Colin Ingram has signed a two-year extension at the Club as an overseas player.

Ingram, 35, will be one of Glamorgan’s two overseas players in the Vitality Blast alongside Marnus Labuschagne and will be available as a reserve player in the County Championship and Royal-London Cup should Labuschagne be unavailable.

The left-handed batsman was previously a Kolpak player for the county since joining 2015, playing all three formats until the end of the 2017 season. In 2018 and 2019 Ingram was contracted for white-ball fixtures only but will now return to the first-class game.

The South-African international is Glamorgan’s top scorer in T20 cricket, with over 2,000 runs at an average of just under 40 and a strike rate of 159. He averages over 67 in List A cricket for the Welsh county, and nearly 40 with the bat in first-class cricket.

Ingram will be in Cardiff for the full season and as part of his increased commitment to the Club and Welsh cricket, he will be acting as a mentor for young batters in the Academy and helping to coach throughout the pathway when not playing or training.

Speaking on signing his new deal, Ingram said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed this new deal with Glamorgan.

“Cardiff is where I want to be, I love playing here and my family love the city and being in Wales.

“I love playing T20 cricket, but I also want to challenge myself again in the longer formats of the game and I’m excited to have the opportunity to do that at the Club I love.

“I’ve always been passionate about helping the next generation of cricketers and it’s really exciting for me to work with these young Welsh players, help them improve and share some knowledge I’ve gained at the international and franchise level.”

Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace, added: “Colin is a top-class player and a great person to have around the dressing room.

“He’s played around the world and brings invaluable experience to our players and now we are able to fully utilise these experiences across the pathway.

“Colin’s got plenty of experience in all three formats and has excelled for Glamorgan across the last five years, and he’ll be a fantastic reserve option should he be needed in the longer formats of the game.

“He’s rightly a fan favourite on Blast nights and we hope the fans are as excited as us to see him back in action at Sophia Gardens in 2021.”
