Confidence To Win More - Croft

Glamorgan Head Coach Robert was delighted his team was able to secure the first County Championship victory against Derbyshire at Colwyn Bay today.

an unbeaten half century from captain Jacques Rudolph provided the backbone for the Glamorgan run chase, but it was the impetus provided by Craig Meschede that eventually took the home team over the line in style, bludgeoning two fours and a six off Wayne Madsen to secure the win.

After setting Derbyshire a huge challenge built upon Anuerin Donald's record heroics in the first innings and a britlte first innings from the visitors in reply, Derbyshire fought back brilliantly from a dismal first two days, but in the end they could not do enough to overturn a 341-run first innings deficit.

We experienced some nervous moments during the run chase, but I thought we fully deserved the win,"  said Glamorgan Head Coach Robert Croft after the game, "it will give us  the confidence to win some more during the remainder of the season.

"Michael Hogan has said it was the best win he has played in since joining the Club, especially as they had been in the field for 214 overs. The boys showed great desire over the four days and we can now look forward to the tough challenge from Somerset in the T20 game on Friday”.

Derbyshire coach, John Sadler said he was very proud of the fightback from his team and the application showed from the batsmen in the second innings, ”Four dropped catches in their first innings cost us, as did the poor batting performance in ours, but we fought until the end. Chesney Hughes and Billy Godleman played superbly, as did Wayne Madsen and he certainly deserved a hundred.”

Glamorgan's attention now turns to Friday's clash with Somerset 200 miles south back in Cardiff, and a second win this week would secure a quarter-final spot for the Welsh county for the second time in three years. Secure your tickets for Friday's clash here
