After playing a series of eye-catching innings in limited-overs cricket not least in helping Glamorgan reach a Lord's final in 2013, Cooke established himself as a regular in the club's Championship line-up during a breakthrough campaign in 2014.
This season he has continued to be amongst the club's leading performers, scoring a memorable 94 not out off 54 balls to help Glamorgan chase 318 for victory in the Royal London One-Day Cup match against Kent and hit his third first-class century against Gloucestershire in the final Championship game of the year.
I have loved my time at Glamorgan over the last few years so I am very happy to commit my future to the Club, said Chris Cooke.
We've got a good squad and if we can continue to build around the pillars of experience with the promising young Welsh talent coming through, then only good things will come.
I'm excited about the prospect of helping the club progress by gaining promotion and getting into some more finals.
Chris is a high quality batsman, capable of outstanding innings, and is a terrific person to have in the dressing room, said Hugh Morris, Glamorgan chief executive and director of cricket.
His calm assured nature and powerful batting performances is of great benefit to the younger guys we have breaking into the first team.
In previous years at the end of each county cricket season Cooke has wintered back in South Africa playing club cricket, but unlike some of his Glamorgan teammates, the 29-year-old will make his preparations for the 2016 campaign in Wales this year.
It's my first winter in Wales and I'm looking forward to training with the squad, which is something I've not really done before through the colder months said Cooke and it gives me a chance to work on some technical improvements too.
The Glamorgan players spending the winter playing overseas are:
Colin Ingram (Warriors)
Michael Hogan (Western Australia)
Andrew Salter (Blacktown District, Sydney)
James Kettleborough (Easts Dolphins, Sydney)
Aneurin Donald (Darren Lehman Academy)
Owen Morgan (Darren Lehman Academy)
