Cooke & van der Gugten included for historic match

Head Coach Robert Croft has named a 15-man squad for tomorrow’s (26 June) historic floodlit Specsavers County Championship match against Derbyshire in Cardiff.

Timm van der Gugten and Chris Cooke return to the squad for the first-ever day-night Championship fixture held in Wales, after a disappointing defeat to Durham on Thursday.

Van der Gugten returns from International duty after playing for the Netherlands against Zimbabwe, while Cooke is added after recovering from concussion after being hit in the head during a net session on the lead up to the Durham game.

Both players were instrumental in Glamorgan’s win against Worcestershire recently, with van der Gugten taking six wickets in the match and Cooke’s 93 runs adding to a second fifty and a hundred in his last four innings.

“Timm and Chris have both been in good form and add competition for places in our squad,” said Croft.

The game will be played with a pink Duke ball rather than the traditional red and after practicing at Newport today, Croft says his side are excited to play in these new conditions for Championship cricket.

“We had a good training session in Newport with the pink ball and the players are all looking forward to the match.

“It will be a new experience for most of the boys so we’ll need to adapt quickly, but we’re confident we will be able to do that and get back to winning ways.”

The County Championship has featured just one day-night game until now, a 2011 match between Kent and Glamorgan, which the Welsh County won by eight-wickets. All-rounder Graham Wagg is the only player in the squad to have played in that game, taking five wickets in the match.

The match will start at 2pm, with the second session starting at 4.40pm and the final session at 7pm. The scheduled end of play is 9pm.

Tickets are available for £15 for all three sessions, £10 after lunch and just £5 if supporters attend after tea, with junior tickets priced at £3 throughout.
