Former Glamorgan batsman Mark Cosgrove is chomping at the bit to resume his stint season as Leicestershire captain, starting in Cardiff on Sunday.
South Australian Cosgrove described his first season of captaincy last year as 'interesting', but is now looking forward to a new season, which starts at The SSE SWALEC this weekend.
He said: “I learned a heck of a lot about captaincy, but also about managing people."
Leicestershire managed just two wins last season – an improvement from none the year before – but still finished bottom of Division Two, a third consecutive wooden spoon.
But the Foxes have recruited well in the winter, with Paul Horton, Neil Dexter and Mark Pettini added to the squad, giving Cosgrove renwed belief ahead of the meeting with Glamorgan.
He added: “The bowlers, with Clint McKay, Charlie Shreck and Ben Raine each getting close to 60 wickets, were fantastic, but no question our batting at times let us down. The guys who’ve come in know how to make runs when it matters and how to build innings. We look a really solid team now and the plan is to push really hard to get out of the division.”
Though Cosgrove admits that will be tough, he is relishing a return to his former club Glamorgan on Sunday.
He said: “It will be hard because Glamorgan play good cricket, they had a good season last time around and they’ll be anxious to start well too. But while it’s always nice to go back and see some familiar faces, make no mistake, I’m heading there on business.”
