It was quite literally a case of bravo for Dean Cosker on Friday evening at The SSE SWALEC as Surrey were overwhelmed by a vibrant Glamorgan side for whom Man-of-the-Match Dean Cosker became the first Glamorgan bowler to claim 100 wickets in the competition as Dwayne Bravo, the West Indian all-rounder became the evergreen spinner’s 100th victim in Twenty20 cricket.
Dean claimed his first wicket during Glamorgan’s inaugural match in Twenty20 cricket, against Northamptonshire at Cardiff in June 2003 as he bowled Jeff Cook. His 50th victim came at the same ground eight years later as he had Scott Newman of Middlesex caught by his spin-twin Robert Croft during Glamorgan’s win by 45 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method.
The spinner had gone into last Friday night’s game under the Cardiff floodlights needing two more scalps to reach the milestone of 100 wickets for Glamorgan in Twenty20 cricket, and he duly claimed his 99th victim as Zafar Ansari chipped a ball back into his hands during Cosker’s second over.
Then with the first ball of his third over, he lured Dwayne Bravo down the wicket as Chris Cooke – who himself had a memorable night behind the stumps – removed the bails with the West Indian well out of his ground.
Cosker duly became a member of the small and exclusive list of bowlers who have claimed over 100 wickets in Twenty20 cricket in England and Wales which includes seam bowlers Yasir Arafat, Azhar Mahmood, Alfonso Thomas, Richard Pyrah and Graham Napier plus fellow spinners Danny Briggs, Samit Patel and James Tredwell.
