Croft names unchanged squad for Leicestershire

Head Coach Robert Croft has named an unchanged squad as Glamorgan round off their first block of Specsavers County Championship fixtures against Leicestershire.

The Welsh County will be hoping for a re-energised performance with the bat having lost to Kent last week by six wickets.

Glamorgan travel to Grace Road with young pathway Player Jack Murphy in form after striking a maiden half-century in first-class cricket last week against Kent and played his part in a 130-run partnership with overseas player Shaun Marsh in the process.

The 22-year-old has been settling into life as an opening batsman and will be looking to provide a steady platform at the top of the order again this weekend.

"It's been really good, I think me and Nick [Selman] have had three 50 partnerships at the top of the order just trying to set a solid foundation for the boys.

“I've batted with Marshy [Shaun Marsh] quite a few times now and have had a good couple of partnerships with him so that's what we're looking for.”

"Matt [Maynard] has been talking a lot about those partnerships at the top of the order and getting off to a good start so I'm just glad I can be doing that for the team.

“Opening the batting at the minute is my main focus. It's gone well so far and there's going to be more hard work to cement my place and score a fair few more runs.”

The tall left-hander Murphy has been flourishing in his new role toward the top of the order after switching his focus, however he is adamant that should he be called upon to bowl he will be more than ready.

"My bowling has been ticking along, it went well in the winter and if needed I will be there but we've got three quality seamers and David Lloyd who is a good fourth option as well. They will take on most of the work load but if I get a chance to bowl I will try my best.”

Leicestershire lost last week to Durham in a topsy turvy affair but Murphy believes they will be desperate to return to winnings ways and will prove to be tough opposition.

"They will be quite disappointed with their loss last week especially after dominating for three days.

“We're going to go up [to Leicestershire], have a good training session and just assess what game plans to use and whether we want to bowl first or go for the toss.”
