Crowd support helped us win, says Wagg

Graham Wagg lauded the support of a boisterous Cardiff crowd after Glamorgan clinched a nail-biting 4 run triumph over Middlesex.
Wagg, whose accurate death bowling limited the visitors to just eight runs off the final over to secure the win, also praised the side's character after Jacques Rudolph led from the front with a belligerent half-century to set up the victory.

After Dawid Malan hit 70 off 54 balls for the visitors, Craig Meschede took two wickets in an over to turn the game on its head and take it down to the wire, before Wagg held his nerve in the final over.

He said: It was exciting! The ticker was going a little bit and the crowd really got behind us, which was really good to see.

I asked for a really good performance and billed it as a must win game, said Wagg. We've been under pressure all year but off the back of two defeats, to roll over Middlesex was phenomenal.

Though Glamorgan had lost their previous two matches at home, to Essex and Hampshire, they have now moved up to sixth, after a win in their opening match at Surrey and last night's narrow win.

The nerve-jangling finish sent the spectators home happy and Wagg said the team need to keep impressing to earn the support of the fans.

He said: We need to perform at home to get the crowd in - that's what we needed to do tonight and it paid off.

And ahead of the visit of Somerset and in-form West Indian batsman Chris Gayle on Saturday 13, Wagg is confident the team can continue their form as they welcome the best in the business.

He added: We've got Gloucestershire first so we'll to look forward to that and try beat them first but I hope there will be a huge turnout for him (Gayle). We train hard to perform against the best, so hopefully we can stop Chris Gayle hitting balls into the river Taff!

He is the biggest name in T20 cricket around the world, so it'll be great to welcome him to Cardiff and hopefully I will get him out.
