Whilst the final touches are being put to the SSE SWALEC ahead of the first match of the Investec Ashes series, Glamorgan travel to Chesterfield for their next contest in the LV=County Championship with their game against Derbyshire at the Queen's Park ground scheduled to start at 11.00am on Monday, July 6th.
Glamorgan have registered a record four successive Championship victories during the course of the past few weeks, defeating Essex at Cardiff by 89 runs, Northamptonshire at Cardiff by 10 wickets, Surrey at Guildford by 7 wickets and then last week beating Leicestershire at Cardiff by 137 runs This has been their best-ever sequence in Championship cricket since 2004 and a win at Chesterfield would establish a new Club record of five successive victories in Championship cricket.
Glamorgan last visited Chesterfield in their Championship-winning year of 1997 when the game ended all square. The Welsh county have played at Queen's Park on 24 previous occasions, with their most recent victory being in 1963 when they won by seven wickets. In that game over fifty years ago, Jeff Jones and Ossie Wheatley each took four wickets in Derbyshire's first innings, before Bernard Hedges scored a skilful 83. The coup de grace was then, as so often at that time, provided by the wily Don Shepherd, whose off-cutters took 7/49 and laid the platform for Glamorgan's victory.
As far as the current Division Two table is concerned, Glamorgan are in third place, 33 points behind Surrey and fifty points behind leaders Lancashire, although the Welsh county have two games in hand over both teams and still have to face Lancashire twice in Championship cricket during 2015.
