The Welsh county, who have seen their last two matches decimated by the weather, start this game still in fifth place in the Division Two table whilst Derbyshire are eighth out of eight and still seeking their first victory of the 2023 season in the four-day competition.

The two teams were involved in a high-scoring contest last year at Derby with Glamorgan set a target of 331 in 55 overs on the final day. Despite a spirited stand between Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Northeast, the game ended in a draw. The Welsh county had been victorious on their previous visit to Derby in 2019 when they successfully chased 246 in 79 overs with Andrew Salter and Tom Cullen guiding their side to victory.

The game at Derby in 2018 saw a ten-wicket haul by Tony Palladino guide Derbyshire to a 169-run victory. Glamorgan had opted to bowl first on the green-tinged surface but Billy Godleman rode his luck in his team’s first innings before the seam and swing of Palladino saw him scythe his way through the visiting line-up, with only Chris Cooke offering any lengthy defiance.

The match in 2017 at Derby proved to be a soggy affair with a combination of rain and a saturated outfield seeing just a couple of sessions of play on the third day. The weather played a role as well in 2016 with snow, sleet and hail interrupting proceedings as the contest ended all-square.
