Durham beat Glamorgan by 52 runs at Cardiff

Durham dismissed Glamorgan for 133 to win their Royal London One-Day Cup at the SWALEC Stadium by 52 runs, despite David Lloyd having earlier taken 4/10 and Michael Hogan 3/22, with Jacques Rudolph also making 61.
Glamorgan, who began the match in fourth place in the group table, made one change to their line-up from the defeat to the Kent Spitfires at Canterbury with James Harris returning in place of Andrew Salter. But it was the usual pairing of Michael Hogan and Graham Wagg who shared the new ball, with Hogan striking with his second delivery as Mark Stoneman edged a rising delivery into Mark Wallace's gloves.

Callum MacLoud began by upper cutting Hogan over backward point before Phil Mustard sliced a drive against Wagg over the slip cordon. Both bowlers beat the outside edge on numerous occasions before Mustard cover drove and on-drove Wagg for three fours in an over as Durham ended the powerplays on 39/1.

Wagg then switched to the River End as Harris replaced him at the Cathedral Road End. MacLeod scythed both bowlers through extra cover as the visitor's reached 50 in the 12th over whilst Mustard also attacked with relish, twice despatching Wagg through the offside for further boundaries.

Jim Allenby also had a spell at the Cathedral Road End before Dean Cosker's spin was introduced. The left-armer was reverse-swept for four by MacLeod whilst the former was pulled by Mustard to square-leg en route to a 72-ball fifty shortly after his partner had brought up the century stand with an on-drive against Cosker. But the spinner then ended the partnership as MacLeod departed leg before to the canny bowler.

But on 53, Mustard got into a bit of a pickle as he attempted to pull Hogan and he departed after the Australian re-arranged his stumps. 114/3 then became 116/4 as Hogan struck again as Collingwood departed shouldering arms to the fast bowler. Scott Borthwick then edged Hogan just short of second slip before Ben Stokes drove him through mid-on, as well as pulling him next over for another boundary.

Borthwick swept Cosker for four but next over Durham stuttered again as the crafty spinner firstly trapped Borthwick l.b.w. before having Keaton Jennings caught behind attempting a reverse-sweep, as the visitors slipped to 131/6. Stokes responded by lofting Harris into the trees at the River End for a mighty six, followed by a rasping four through the covers.

His aggression coincided with the batting powerplay after 35 overs with Stokes also harpooning Cosker over mid-wicket for six before lofting Allenby straight for another maximum. He then swatted David Lloyd to long-leg for four before next ball pulling a delivery straight to Hogan on the mid-wicket boundary having struck 49 off 44 balls.

Two balls later John Hastings edged Lloyd to slip, before two deliveries later he bowled Paul Coughlin as the all-rounder claimed three wickets in his opening over.
Gareth Breese square-cut Lloyd for four before using the long handle to smite Allenby to mid-wicket. But Lloyd ended the innings as Onions edged to slip with the all-rounder ending with career-best figures of 4/10.

Chasing a target of 186 to win, Jacques Rudolph clipped the second ball of the innings from Onions to the ropes at mid-wicket before cover driving the fifth delivery for another boundary. The Springbok then cover drove and square drove Coughlin for two boundaries in his second over, but 21/0 dramatically became 21/3 as for the second time in the game three wickets tumbled in an over

Firstly, Will Bragg drove Onions into Stokes' hands in the gully before Lloyd was bowled first ball and then to the final delivery of the over Allenby departed l.b.w. With Murray Goodwin as his new partner, Rudolph spliced a drive to third man against Coughlin before pulling Onions to the ropes. He then punched Onions off the back foot through extra cover before despatching the next ball through backward point.
Goodwin also cut Stokes for four but the veteran was then trapped l.b.w. by John Hastings in the fifteenth.

47/4 then became 53/5 as three overs later Chris Cooke was caught behind as he edged a drive against Stokes. Rudolph greeted Collingwood by drilling him through extra cover for four, whilst Wallace inside-edged a drive against Coughlin. With the total on 73, Wallace then got an outside edge to a drive against Collingwood into Mustard's gloves as Wagg joined Rudolph.

The pair watchfully pushed the ball around, but on 86 he was bowled by a delivery from Collingwood which appeared to scuttle through. Shortly afterwards Rudolph was dropped at first slip as Onions returned, before the opener celebrated his good fortune by completing an 89-ball fifty and then unleashing a rasping cover drive for four against Collingwood.

Rudolph also clipped Onions to the ropes at mid-wicket before edging Collingwood into Mustard's gloves and departing for 61. 106/8 saw Cosker join Harris and he immediately biffed Onions straight for four before being bowled by the pace bowler. Harris on-drove Onions for four as MacLeod mis-fielded on the boundary's edge before Hogan benefiited from another fielding lapse as he was dropped at second slip, before off-driving and square-cutting Stokes for a pair of fours. But Collingwood returned and had Harris caught at slip as Glamorgan were dismissed for 133 to give the all-rounder figures of 4/16.
