England fall short in Vizag

England\'s resistance lasted just beyond lunch in Visakhapatnam as they succumbed to India by 246 runs to go one down in the five-match series.
Beginning the day with hopes of batting out for a draw in the second Test, England lost five wickets in the morning session and were eventually bowled out for 158.

Despite an early reprieve, key man Joe Root was dismissed by Mohammed Shami for 25 and with him went England’s hopes of saving the Test.

The first wicket fell in the sixth over of the day. Ben Duckett tried to help a legside ball from Ravi Ashwin round the corner but it hit his glove, cannoned into his thigh, and popped up for Wriddhiman Saha to claim.

Root was given out caught behind shortly after but immediately reviewed, replays showing a good inch between his bat and the ball. But Moeen Ali went in the 74th over, Ravindra Jadeja ripping one out of the rough that caught the inside edge and looped to Virat Kohli at short fine leg.

Ben Stokes and Root held out until drinks after which Jayant Yadav came on from the media centre end. The debutant got one to grip on a good length to beat Stokes’ outside edge and clip off stump.

Root was the next man to fall, Mohammed Shami angling one in with the new ball and rapping England’s vice-captain on the pad. Root reviewed but to no avail.
