With Glamorgan’s Vitality Blast campaign now complete, all eyes turn to the Specsavers County Championship where the Welsh county have three matches remaining.
Glamorgan travel to Worcestershire on Tuesday in 4th position in Division Two and only five points behind Northamptonshire who currently occupy the third promotion slot.
The side are back in red ball training ahead of the match and captain Chris Cooke is looking forward to an exciting climax to the season as the race for promotion hots up.
“Everyone is chomping at the bit to get going and we have got a few days of preparation before the Worcester game, which is a luxury we didn’t have before Colwyn Bay,” said Cooke.
“We have a couple of hard days in the nets now and all roads lead to Worcester next Tuesday.
“We’re all really looking forward to it but it is just a case of taking it game by game and getting back to the basics and fundamentals of four-day cricket and just doing that right, and seeing where it takes us.”
The match against Worcestershire comes on the back of a record-breaking victory against Hampshire in the final Vitality Blast fixture of the summer, and Cooke believes that the team can use the win to their advantage.
“For the batters T20’s can help a bit, it can get your feet going and get you into better positions, but like I said we have got three or four days of good training now at the boys are getting back into the swing of it.
“It was nice to get a win and it was a bit of a relief for everyone. It shows what we can do with the T20 stuff, and hopefully we take a bit pf momentum into the next couple of days, and then into the next three games.”
With the country’s leading run scorer, Marnus Labsuchagne currently making headlines in the Ashes and Shaun Marsh back in Australia, Glamorgan have signed West-Indian opener Kraigg Brathwaite for the final three games.
“Obviously Kraigg will bring a bit of experience,” added Cooke. “He will offer a bit of solidity in the top three and hopefully he can come in and fit into the team.
“I’m sure he will be a good addition to the side, and get a couple of runs as well.”
