The final venues for Glamorgan’s 2023 domestic season have now been confirmed. The fixtures were originally announced in November, but with three locations listed as TBC.
The LV= County Championship match against Leicestershire starting on Monday, 10th July will be played at Sophia Gardens, while the One-Day Cup fixtures against Durham Cricket (8th August) and Warwickshire (10th August) will be held at Neath Cricket Club.
Head of operations, Dan Cherry, said: “We’re pleased to finalise the 2023 fixture list, which will see red-ball cricket played in Cardiff in July.
“It’s also exciting to be able to play in Neath again after a successful return to the venue last season. Both matches were very well attended and we were treated to some fantastic cricket.
“Unfortunately, we are still unable to host a fixture in North Wales this season.
“There are still significant logistical and financial challenges to playing at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club, and further operational issues caused by a fire that broke out last year that damaged buildings at the venue.
“As a result, it has been agreed by both Glamorgan and Colwyn Bay Cricket Club that first-class cricket would not be able to be held at the ground this year.
“We remain committed to playing out-ground cricket across Wales and are currently discussing with our partners and stakeholders in North Wales to investigate all of our options as we begin planning a return in 2024.”
Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Aaron Wynne said “Conwy County Borough Council are continuing to work with organisers to see the return of key events to the area following the pandemic.
"Sadly we will not be able to welcome the Glamorgan Cricket Festival to North Wales in 2023 but we’re working together to bring it back to the area in 2024."
The Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Cllr Steve Hunt, said: “To have first-class cricket played once again in the centre of Neath at the Gnoll really puts Neath on the map.
“I want to congratulate the team at Neath Cricket Club for their success in providing first-class facilities and other factors which have led to Glamorgan choosing to play matches in Neath.
“We enjoyed watching Glamorgan play Hampshire and Lancashire at the Gnoll last Summer and these further fixtures in Neath which have just been announced will bring big crowds into the centre of Neath once again where our new Neath Leisure Centre is about to open.”
