16 Jun 2022 | Cricket

Glamorgan travel to Bristol for their next match in the Vitality Blast with their T20 contest against Gloucestershire scheduled to get underway at 1830 on Saturday 18 June (writes Andrew Hignell)

Thanks to Glenn Phillips’ destructive batting Gloucestershire were the victors last year at Bristol but, as the list below shows of the recent games at the Nevil Road ground, it has been a happy hunting ground for Glamorgan in T20 cricket with the Welsh county recording four successive victories.

June 8th, 2014 - No Result
June 12th, 2015 - Glamorgan won by 19 runs
June 10th, 2016 - Glamorgan won by 6 wickets
July 25th , 2017 - Glamorgan won by 25 runs
Aug 29th 2020 - Glamorgan won by 15 runs
June 24th, 2021 - Gloucestershire won by 34 runs

Glamorgan’s 15-run victory in 2021 was set-up by some frugal spin bowling by Prem Sisodiya and Andrew Salter, with the latter taking 4/20 after Chris Cooke had posted an unbeaten 51. The victory by 25 runs at Bristol in 2017 followed a pair of assertive fifties by Jacques Rudolph and David Miller, with the pair of South Africans unleashing some muscular blows before the Welsh county’s attack restricted the home batsmen.

The six-victory win at Bristol in 2016 was also underpinned by a fine bowling performance which had restricted Gloucestershire to 168-6, before Colin Ingram posted a quickfire fifty to guide Glamorgan to victory. The game at Bristol in 2015 was a high-scoring affair with each captain, Jacques Rudolph and Michael Klinger, posting an unbeaten hundred. But it was the efforts of the Glamorgan leader, and his maiden Twenty20 century, who held sway as the Welsh county won by 19 runs
