Glamorgan 2nd XI have reached Finals Day of the Second Eleven T20 competition, taking place at Arundel tomorrow (Thursday, 9 June).
After losing their opening encounter to Warwickshire by five wickets in a rain-affected match at Portland Road, Glamorgan recorded six victories starting with wins against Worcestershire by 22 runs at New Road and again by 7 wickets at Sudbrook CC, followed by home and away victories against Gloucestershire, both by 3 wickets, at Bristol and Newport, before defeating Somerset by 19 runs in another rain-affected game at Taunton Vale before clinching qualification for Finals Day by beating Warwickshire in the final group match by 52 runs at Newport.
Glamorgan 2nd XI won the T20 competition in 2019 after beating Nottinghamshire in the semi-final and Hampshire in the final, held again at Arundel.
Tom Cullen is set to lead the team again as they meet Middlesex in the second semi-final with the final taking place against either Leicestershire or Nottinghamshire later that afternoon at the attractive ground situated in the shadow of the famous Castle.
2nd XI Captain, Tom Cullen, said: "It’s exciting for the second eleven to get to finals day again. Hopefully, we can replicate our performance from 2019 and we will be pitching up looking to win - that’s the standard for us."
2nd XI Coach, Steve Watkin, added: "We played against some strong teams through qualification, many having white-ball players having a run out for the main tournament.
"It was a really good effort to qualify considering the quality of some of the teams who didn't make it, and with the squad we're taking and our performances so far in the tournament, I think we have a really good chance."
