Glamorgan Cricket are delighted to announce the signing of Mitchell Swepson as overseas cover for Michael Neser in the LV= County Championship.
A legspinner who can give the ball a good rip - with an increasing collection of highlight-grabbing dismissals - Mitchell Swepson was initially called into Australia's Test squad for the tour of India in early 2017 but a debut would have to wait another five years.
A first Test cap came his way against Pakistan in Karachi when Australia employed a twin-spin attack. The 29-year-old has since made four test appearances for the Aussies, taking 10 wickets.
With Michael Neser away on international duty for the Ashes, Swepson comes in and adds a nice variety to the Glamorgan bowling attack.
Swepson celebrates a wicket for Australia against Sri Lanka
The leg-spinner has taken 185 first-class wickets in 62 matches. In 2015-16, his debut Shield season for Queensland, Swepson took 17 wickets at 37.94 from six games, and he was rushed into the Australia A side for three first-class games against South Africa A and India A in 2016, collecting 14 wickets at 19.35.
His development continued thereafter winning the admiration of Shane Warne through his performances for the Brisbane Heat in the BBL.
Swepson adds to Glamorgan's list of Queenslanders, with Marnus Labuschagne and Neser both also part of the Queensland squad. While Callum Taylor grew up in the Sunshine State.
Like Neser and Labuschagne, Swepson will head home to Queensland for the Sheffield Shield in September.
