Glamorgan County Cricket Club Announces Richard Dawson as interim Head Coach

Glamorgan County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Richard Dawson will be the Club’s interim Head Coach until the end of the season.

A former off-spinner for England in his playing days while at Yorkshire, Dawson joined the senior England coaching team as Elite Performance Pathway Coach in 2021 having been the Head Coach for England Lions tour of Australia in 2020.

Prior to this, he was the Gloucestershire CCC Head Coach from January 2015 for six seasons following a period as their spin-bowling coach. During this time, he led Gloucestershire to become One Day Cup Champions in his maiden season and to four Vitality Blast knockout stage appearances including a trip to Finals Day in 2020.

Commenting on his appointment, Dawson said:

“I’m delighted to be joining Glamorgan as Head Coach for the coming season. I’ve got a good idea of how the club works having spent time with Welsh Fire over the years. I’m looking forward to getting involved with the players and coaches at the club and building on the success achieved in the 50 over competition last season.”

Mark Wallace, Glamorgan Director of Cricket said:

“It’s great news for the club that we have been able to appoint a coach of Richard Dawson’s standing and quality as interim head coach until the end of the season. We were keen to move quickly and get someone in place for the 2025 season and we see Richard as the perfect fit to develop the squad and continue to move us forward this season.”

Dawson is currently part of the England Lions Coaching staff in Australia and will officially start his interim Head Coach role in March following completion of his duties at the Women’s Premier League in India.

He will retain his current role as Assistant Coach for Welsh Fire and a lead coach for the 2025 Metro Bank One Day Cup will be announced in the coming months.
