Glamorgan Cricket can announce that seam bowler John Glover is retiring from professional cricket to pursue other employment opportunities following long-term injury.
Glover, who will be 25 later this week, made his first-class debut for Durham MCCU in 2008 whilst studying at the University.
The following summer, the Gwent product who went to Llantarnam School, took 5/38 against Durham. It was a performance which led to him having a trial with Glamorgan and returning to South Wales to join the Welsh county's playing staff.
John made his Championship debut for Glamorgan in 2011 taking 4/49 against Kent at Canterbury, whilst in 2012 he showed his prowess with the bat, posting a match-winning innings against Northamptonshire.
The same year he made a career-best 55 against Kent at the SWALEC Stadium as he shared a partnership with Jim Allenby, which laid the foundations of a Glamorgan victory and he was named Young Player of the Year at the Club's end of season of season awards night.
Glover has also been regular representative for the Club in the community, both in supporting cricket development programmes and charitable efforts, in particular supporting the MacMillan Cancer charity during 2014.
Glover said of his retirement, After giving it a huge amount of consideration over the last couple of months, I have decided to retire at the end of the month from professional cricket to take up an offer of employment from Sport Radar. I have not taken this decision lightly and with all things considered I have decided it is time to move on to the next step of my career.
I would like to thank everybody at Glamorgan CCC for all of the support over my 5 years at the Club. On a personal level I have loved having the opportunity to play for Glamorgan and wish Hugh, Toby and everyone at the club all the best for the future.
I would also like to thank everybody else who has been involved in my career, including the players, coaches, science and medicine and staff at Glamorgan.
