Head coach Matt Maynard has picked a 14-man squad as Glamorgan welcome the Hampshire Hawks in the Vitality Blast under the Friday night lights at Sophia Gardens tomorrow.
The Welsh county are looking to bounce back from their five-wicket defeat at the hands of Gloucestershire on Tuesday, before they head into LV= County Championship action against Sussex on Sunday.
Overseas star Michael Neser is replaced by left-arm seamer Jamie McIlroy after the Australian contracted Covid-19 and missed Tuesday’s game.
Glamorgan currently sit in 7th place in the Vitality Blast South Group, while the visitors are in 8th place after picking up back-to-back wins after a slow start.
View from the camp – David Lloyd
“We are looking to be a bit more flexible. I think the way the lads have bowled up top has been superb. Hoges has obviously come back into this format this year and he has shown what he is still capable of doing. Him and Ness have been great.
“We go again tomorrow. Every game we try and assess the conditions as quickly as we can, and we have been trying to use our seamers early and save Prem for the middle overs. He has bowled extremely well in that role this season.
“It hasn’t gone our way so far so we will have a look at if there is anything hat we can change going into our first Friday night in Cardiff.”
Head-to-head – Glamorgan vs Hampshire Hawks
As the list below shows of the last six meetings between the two teams at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan have been victorious on the last two occasions when Hampshire have visited Cardiff:
25 June, 2014 - Hampshire won by 6 runs
29 May, 2015 - Hampshire won by 21 runs
3 June, 2016 - Glamorgan won by 5 wickets
7 July, 2017 - Hampshire won by 22 runs
10 Aug, 2018 - Glamorgan won by 8 wickets
30 Aug, 2019 - Glamorgan won by 28 runs
Their victory in 2019 saw the Glamorgan batters feast on a spin-heavy attack, striking a total of 19 fours and 13 sixes, including a brace off the last ten balls by Chris Cooke, whose 23-ball cameo followed assertive knocks by Colin Ingram and David Lloyd. Ingram had been to the fore in 2018 after a fine bowling spell of 3/21 by Craig Meschede had restricted Hampshire to 151. The pair then added 82 in 8.2 overs for the first wicket as Glamorgan raced to their target, with Ingram reaching his fifty from 26 balls as the Welsh county eased home with 25 balls to spare.
