Glamorgan fell short by 19 runs in their opening fixture against Surrey in the Vitality T20 Blast.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Glamorgan's bowlers initially put Surrey under pressure. Jamie McIlroy made the first breakthrough by dismissing Dan Lawrence for 13, followed by Timm van der Gugten, who bowled Jason Roy for 11, leaving Surrey at 30 for two. Dan Douthwaite further bolstered Glamorgan's position by removing Surrey captain Ollie Pope for a duck, reducing Surrey to 43 for three after the Powerplay.
However, Jamie Smith's explosive innings of 76 allowed Surrey to recover and post a challenging total of 200 for eight. Lawrie Evans and Sean Abbott also contributed with their crucial knocks, with Abbott scoring an unbeaten 24 from 14 balls.
Glamorgan's chase mirrored Surrey's start, with early wickets hampering their progress. Gus Atkinson dismissed Eddie Byrom for 10, followed by the dismissals of Kiran Carlson and Sam Northeast, leaving Glamorgan at 30 for three.
A 99-run partnership between Marnus Labuschagne and Colin Ingram steadied Glamorgan's innings. Both batsmen fell shortly after reaching their fifties. Chris Cooke's late surge briefly reignited hopes among the home crowd, but with 28 needed off the final over, the target proved too steep.
We will be back in action on Sunday, June 2, playing against Sussex Sharks at 2:30 pm.
