Ingram continued to drive fluently before Lukas Carey replaced Douthwaite at the Cathedral Road End. However, Harris continued at the River End and removed Root for 28 who edged into Chris Cooke’s gloves with the score on 183.
Hogan then replaced Harris and was cover driven for four by Callum Taylor as Glamorgan A reached the 200-mark in the 48th over. Having been joined by Tom Cullen, Taylor added another six to his tally as he lofted Phillips for a straight six
Morning Update (Day Two)
Yesterday, three batters – Sam Northeast, James Harris and Dan Douthwaite – took advantage of time in the middle to compile impressive half-centuries for Glamorgan B, led by Kiran Carlson. This morning, it was the turn of the batters in Glamorgan A, captained by David Lloyd, to emulate their achievements, again under blue skies at Sophia Gardens.
Lloyd opened the batting with Andrew Salter against the new ball attack of Harris and Michael Hogan, with both seamers bowling a nagging line and length. Lukas Carey and Douthwaite then had a spell in tandem as the 50 came up in the 16th over as Lloyd on-drove Carey for four. The club captain then welcomed the introduction of Tegid Phillips’ off-spin by sweeping him for four, before the youngster was twice driven to long-on by Salter. Lloyd also square-drove Joe Cooke for four before completing his fifty from 70 balls with another well-timed square drive.
The 100 came up in the 24th over, whereupon Salter was bowled by Cooke, before Ingram opened his account with a pair of flowing cover drives against Phillips
Close of Play (Report)
With Glamorgan having reached 218-4 at tea, Dan Douthwaite became the third batter to reach fifty as he pulled James Weighell for four – his 67th delivery and 9th boundary. He added two more fours to his tally before retiring with the total on 247. Morgan Bevans also impressed, driving Weighell through mid-off an mid-on, followed by a square-drive against Andrew Gorvin and a sweep for four against Andrew Salter.
Lukas Carey was bowled by Gorvin with the total on 275 before Prem Sisodiya followed soon after in similar fashion. After Bevans had retired on 44, Joe Cooke and Kiran Carlson each returned to the middle in the closing overs, before Cooke departed l.b.w. to Carlson as Glamorgan B declared on 291-7.
Teatime Update (Day One)
With Harry Friend having retired at lunch, Kiran Carlson joined Sam Northeast for the afternoon session, with the latter continuing to impress, late-cutting Lewis for four before on-driving the left-arm spinner for six. Chris Cooke also struck some crisp boundaries during a breezy innings of 22, before being caught at mid-off by Colin Ingram as he tried to loft Lewis into the River Stand.
Having swept Lewis for four, Northeast reached his half-century from 95 balls before also retiring, and allowing Dan Douthwaite to unfurl some typically lusty blows in the period before tea as Glamorgan B reached 216-4 from 62 overs with the all-rounder unbeaten on 41.
Lunchtime Report (Day One)
Following their victory against Somerset at Taunton, Glamorgan continued their pre-season programme this morning with an intra-squad contest at Sophia Gardens, between a Glamorgan A team led by Club captain David Lloyd and a Glamorgan B side led by vice-captain Kiran Carlson. Also appearing in this two-day contest were several members of the Glamorgan Academy, including Ben Morris, Callum Nicholls, Harry Friend and Morgan Bevans, plus Rhodri Lewis, the left-arm spinner who plays for Berkshire.
Carlson’s team won the toss and batted first and at lunch are 100-2, with James Harris, batting at number three, playing some fluent drives to complete a 55-ball fifty which contained a dozen elegant and crisply-struck boundaries. On 57 he was bowled by Lloyd in the Club captain’s opening over, with opening batter Friend batting through the session before retiring 25 not out at the interval.
