Glamorgan join cricket charity auction

Signed shirts from England internationals Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Jack Leach are amongst the lots in an online charity cricket auction supported by all 18 first class counties in partnership with the ECB, PCA and MCC.

A catalogue of 62 lots are now open for bidding at cricketauction.co.uk where cricket fans can also secure international match hospitality experiences at Lord’s, Kia Oval, Trent Bridge, Edgbaston, Emerald Headingley and Emirates Old Trafford.

Glamorgan's lots include specialised coaching sessions with Mark Wallace, Steve Watkin, and Matthew Maynard, and the funds raised will support a joint initiative between Glamorgan Cricket and Citizen Cymru, aimed at helping food banks across Wales during the Covid-19 crisis.

Alongside Glamorgan, Leicestershire and Derbyshire have both offered unique coaching sessions with their professional players and coaches and Sussex CCC have gone one step further by offering the use of their ground for a T20 fixture.

The auction forms part of the Together Through This Test campaign, cricket’s co-ordinated response to Covid-19 that seeks to highlight initiatives across the professional and amateur game.

All donors have nominated a charitable cause to receive the proceeds from their lots.

“There’s a huge sense of community and goodwill across cricket and we all saw an opportunity to collaborate for the greater good,” said Nottinghamshire Commercial Director Michael Temple.

“Every single Club has joined the MCC, ECB and PCA by contributing lots and nominating causes that mean something to them. We hope that cricket fans will find a compelling reason to bid knowing that the proceeds will be donated to causes deserving of the game’s support.”

Trent Bridge sponsors John Pye Auctions are supporting the initiative by waiving all fees and commissions and will host the lots on their secure online auction platform.

“When Trent Bridge approached us about discussing a national effort to raise money for good causes, we were happy to collaborate and put our full support immediately behind it,” said John Pye’s Business Development Director, Sheldon Miller.

“We have long been committed to raising funds for worthy causes and we feel it’s important that those who have provided items for the auction have had the opportunity to select a specific charity that’s particularly meaningful to them.

“We have waived all our auction fees and commissions to ensure 100% of all monies from winning bids benefit those charities.

“The way the cricket family has pulled together to support the initiative is typical of the togetherness to which we have become accustomed since our involvement in the sport began in 2015.”
