Head coach David Harrison has named an unchanged 14-man squad for our Royal London Cup fixture against Essex Eagles tomorrow.
The Welsh county look to get their title defence back on track at The Cloud County Ground after suffering consecutive defeats to Yorkshire Vikings and Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
Harrison has hinted that there will be changes to the side, with left-arm spinner Prem Sisodiya and explosive opener Tom Bevan both inline to make their List A debuts.
Bevan has been mightily impressive for the second XI this summer, scoring centuries in all three formats. This form saw him make his Vitality Blast debut at Essex last month and he has been knocking down the door for a first-team place.
Sisodiya has been equally impressive in white-ball cricket for the Welsh county, cementing himself as a mainstay in the T20 side with his left-arm skillset. Able to both open the bowling and tie sides down in the middle, he has been invaluable in the shorter format of the game.
Glamorgan currently sit fourth in the Royal London Cup Group B table with two wins and two defeats from their four games, while the Eagles sit in sixth place, one point behind the Welsh county with a win and a no-result to their name so far in the competition.
View from the camp – David Lloyd
“Personally, it was really nice to get back in the runs, but it was obviously a tough day at the office for the boys. We never really got going and it was difficult to recover from that start. No one is as disappointed as we are.
“We have to dust ourselves off before tomorrow and get out there and play the brand of cricket that we know we can. There are four games left and we are still close to that quarter-final spot.
“We are desperate to get back to Trent Bridge, especially those of us who didn’t get to take part in the final last year. We know we have the ability; it is just about getting back to basics and once we do that, the sky is the limit.”
Head-to-head – Essex Eagles vs Glamorgan
Glamorgan will be looking to return to winning ways at a ground where they were last victorious in a one-day contest in 2009, as the listing below shows of Glamorgan’s most recent List A games on Essex soil.
23rd April 2006 at Chelmsford - Essex won by 10 wickets
24th Aug 2008 at Colchester - Essex won by 130 runs
3rd May 2009 at Chelmsford - Glamorgan won by 8 wickets
20th July 2011 at Chelmsford - No Result
26th July 2016 at Chelmsford - Essex won by 4 wickets
30th May 2018 at Chelmsford - Essex won by 9 wickets
Colin Ingram has already posted a couple of hundreds in white-ball cricket this summer taking his tally of centuries in one-day cricket for Glamorgan to twelve, one behind Hugh Morris’ record of thirteen and four behind Matthew Maynard’s Club record of sixteen one-day hundreds for the Welsh county.
In all, Colin has scored five hundreds in white-ball cricket for Glamorgan against Essex, with three coming at Chelmsford – 101 in the T20 game in 2016, 107* in the List A match in 2016 and 114 in the T20 contest during 2017. However, Colin’s hundred in the List A match in 2016 was not quite enough to see Glamorgan across the winning line as Nick Browne made 99, before belligerent fifties from Jesse Ryder and Ravi Bopara saw Essex to a four-wicket victory.
