Glamorgan look to get ball rolling

Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad for the Vitality Blast fixture against the Essex Eagles tomorrow night at Sophia Gardens.

Glamorgan are currently in 9th place in the South Group and looking for their first victory in the competition, while the visitors sit two places above the Welsh county.

There is one change to the squad which lost to Sussex Sharks on Tuesday, with batsman Kiran Carlson ruled out with a side strain suffered in the defeat.

South African fast bowler, Marchant de Lange, who has taken eight wickets in the competition thus far, will be hoping to inspire his team to victory and insists the mood in the camp is still positive despite the poor results

“I think personally from what I’m seeing in the camp we are staying nice and positive,” said de Lange.

“Although things haven’t gone our way in the campaign, but it only takes one or two games to change it around. The boys are positive, we know in T20 all it takes is one guy to come off and get the team together.

“Personally, I’m not so happy, there are a couple of achievements I still want to get to in this specific campaign, otherwise, some games go your way others don’t.

“Sometimes you execute your skill and it doesn’t end up as a dot, it goes for boundaries. There are one or two things I would like to tweak.

De Lange was very candid about his own performances in the Vitality Blast to date and believes there are certain areas he needs to improve on as the competition continues.

“I think upfront I would like to take a couple of early wickets," admitted de Lange.

“That gets the team in the game, and obviously when they are chasing a total you put the opposition team under pressure.

“I think at this stage like I said as a team we would like to get over the line, we would like to get a couple of wins under our belts.

“Essex are a very strong team as we know, but I think in this format especially it takes one or two special performances that can change the whole mindset, and hopefully we can get the ball rolling.”
