Heavy overnight rain has forced the cancellation of today\'s match between the Glamorgan Masters XI and Newport CC at Spytty Park in Newport.
The Glamorgan Masters had been scheduled to be in action for the second time since their inception last year with a number of the Welsh county's former stars, including members of the victorious Championship-winning squad of 1997, all set to play against Newport CC who this summer had won the South Wales Premier League.
However, heavy overnight rain fell in the Newport area and despite the wicket and surrounds being covered at Spytty Park, the rains left the outfield in a saturated state, ruling out the possibility of a 30 overs match later this afternoon.
"It's a great shame that the weather has intervened, " said Ian Thomas who is now one of the PCA’s National Personal Development Managers. “We had hoped that the Glamorgan former players would have been able to get-together again this afternoon at Spytty Park and have some fun and enjoyment against the Newport club, besides raising funds for various charities and good causes. But you cannot control the weather and given the condidtions, we have regretably had to call the match off."
"We have plans for another game elsewhere in 2017 and look forward to playing in front again of Glamorgan supporters, besides arranging further fixtures in different parts of Wales over the coming years.”
