Glamorgan Set for First Vitality Blast Away Matches

5 Jun 2024 | Cricket

Glamorgan selectors have named a 14-man squad for the upcoming Vitality Blast away matches against Middlesex and Essex

After our first win of the 2024 Vitality Blast competition against Sussex Sharks on Sunday in front of a home Sophia Gardens crowd, Glamorgan are set to travel to Lord’s to play Middlesex on 6 June following by a trip to The County Ground in Chelmsford to play Essex on 7 June.

Sunday's game was a great outing for the team with all three units—batting, bowling, and fielding—performing brilliantly. Chris Cooke played a counter-attacking innings batting at number 3 during the powerplay. Then a steadying partnership of 99 runs between Sam Northeast and Colin Ingram bolstered the Glamorgan position, with Sam Northeast finishing the innings on a high of 61*. A total score of 183/7.

Jamie McIlroy bowled superbly in the powerplay, ably supported by Timm van der Gugten. Key breakthroughs from Colin Ingram and Marnus Labuschagne, along with a brilliant spell by Mason Crane ensured that Sharks were never in control.

With 2 points secured, we will now be on the road for two away games. There’s only one change to the squad with Will Smale not included this time to bring the squad to 14.

The full squad is as follows:

05/ Kiran Carlson (C)
97/ Eddie Byrom
16/ Sam Northeast
41/ Colin Ingram
33/ Marnus Labuschagne
46/ Chris Cooke (WK)
88/ Dan Douthwaite
13/ Tom Bevan
03/ Mason Crane
64/ Timm van der Gugten
35/ Jamie McIlroy

“With the first weekend of T20 now under our belt, there’s a great vibe and excitement within the group. It was fantastic for us to start this competition at home and give our fans at Sophia Gardens a taste of the brand and new direction we want to bring to our team.

“As a group, we are obviously very happy to notch up our first win on Sunday, but more importantly, the team has been able to get back into the T20 pace and rhythm after an eight-week block of red-ball cricket.

“We will strive to learn, adapt, and grow better from every experience, and our players are excited for this week’s back-to-back games on the road against Middlesex and Essex."
