Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 14-man squad for our opening three Vitality Blast fixtures of the campaign.
Glamorgan begin their campaign away to Sussex Sharks at the 1st Central County Ground on Thursday 26th May, before traveling to the Oval to face Surrey the following evening. They finish the weekend with a trip to Radlett Cricket Club to take on Middlesex on Sunday 29th May.
David Lloyd will captain the side after he recovered from the viral infection that stopped him from taking the field in the Durham 2nd innings in our last LV= County Championship fixture.
Seamer James Harris is included in the squad as he looks to make his first white-ball appearance for the Welsh County since he left to join Middlesex in 2013.
40-year-old Michael Hogan is also in line to make his first T20 appearance for Glamorgan since 2019. Hogan is currently on 94 wickets for the County, he will become the joint second-highest wicket-taker for the County with one more scalp.
Sam Northeast is also expected to make his white-ball debut for Glamorgan, as he looks to add to his already substantial run tally in the Blast competition, while all-rounder Joe Cooke could also make his T20 debut for the Club.
Glamorgan head into the fixtures with three overseas superstars at their disposal, with Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser and Colin Ingram all included in the 14-man squad.
View from the camp – David Lloyd
‘The mood in the camp heading into Vitality Blast is really good.’
‘We have played some good cricket in the last six weeks. It was obviously a disappointing time up in Durham, which was a shame. But the way that we have shown what we can do so far is really pleasing.
‘It’s a change of format now and the lads are really looking forward to it. There are exciting times ahead and hopefully, we can improve on the last couple of seasons in T20.
‘Luckily, we didn’t have a four-day game this week, so some teams have played and we have had a bit of time to switch over to the white ball and get some good training sessions in.
‘On that side of things, it has been nice to have a clear block where we can focus on the white ball stuff. The more you play you get used to adapting between the different types of games.
‘The lads have trained really hard. We are going back to our skills and what we do best. Bowlers finding out what their go-to balls are under pressure and the batters trying to clear the ropes and look to be busy.’
Injury update
Seamers Timm van der Gugten and Ruaidhri Smith are missing from the squad as they recover from their respective injuries.
Van der Gugten will be out for 8-10 weeks with a hamstring tear, while Smith is out for 4-6 weeks with a side strain. Top-order batter Eddie Byrom is also unavailable with a slight hip flexor problem.
Head-to-head
The Sharks beat Glamorgan last season by 33 runs in their match at Cardiff and the Welsh county have not beaten the Sharks in T20 cricket on Sussex soil since 2017.
In fact, Glamorgan’s victory in 2017 is their soil win on Sussex soil when Colin Ingram completed a 46 ball hundred – the fastest-ever in white-ball cricket for the Welsh county – with his record-breaking efforts coming during a third-wicket stand of 130 with Jacques Rudolph which laid the foundations of an 18-run victory.
