Glamorgan have signed Hampshire seamer Brad Wheal on a short-term loan agreement.
The Scottish International seamer will go straight into the squad for the County Championship match against Northamptonshire tomorrow.
The right-arm quick has taken 109 first-class wickets in has career, and has been a terrific white-ball bowler, having won Vitality Blast with Hampshire and also represented London Spirit in The Hundred.
With seamers Harry Podmore, Timm van der Gugten, and Jamie McIlroy unavailable, Wheal will provide bowling cover initially on a game-by-game basis.
Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace commented: “With Jamie McIlroy adding to our injury list last week, we’ve moved to add Brad to our squad for Friday's game. Brad will offer our attack some extra pace and complement the other resources we’ve got in the squad nicely.
“We’re monitoring Jamie’s injury and thankfully it’s not as bad as we first thought it might be so we’re hopeful he’ll only be unavailable for this game and can use the following week off to further recover.”
Head Coach, Grant Bradburn, added: “We are certainly frustrated by our high injury count in this early part of the season, though all four players are progressing well under expert guidance from our medical team.
“Brad Wheal adds extra pace, bounce and swing, which will compliment our attack nicely. Having coached him previously with Scotland, Toby Bailey and I are confident Brad will enjoy and add huge value to our environment.”
Brad Wheal, on signing, said: “I'm really excited to be joining Glamorgan on loan for this upcoming match.
“It's an honour to have the opportunity to play for such a great county, and I'm looking forward to contributing to the team's success. I’ll be doing everything I can to make a positive impact and help get an important win.”
