Glamorgan Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of all-rounder Dan Douthwaite on a three-year deal until at least the end of the 2021 season.
Douthwaite is a right-arm seam bowler and middle-order batsman who completes his studies this year at Cardiff Metropolitan University and is currently playing for Cardiff MCCU, having originally come through the Surrey development programme.
The 22-year-old has made two first-class appearances for Cardiff MCCU this year and struck a maiden first-class century against Sussex. He then scored 95 and took 2/74 against Glamorgan in a three-day friendly at Sophia Gardens.
Last summer, he also played a List A fixture for Warwickshire where he hit 38 off just 24 balls and recorded bowling figures of 3/43 against West Indies A.
2018 also saw him chosen for the MCC to play at Lord's in the triangular T20 tournament against the Netherlands and Nepal.
Director of cricket, Mark Wallace, said: “Dan is someone we’ve been monitoring for a couple of years while he’s been on the Cardiff MCCU programme.
“He’s had a great start to the season and had interest elsewhere so we’re delighted he’s signed.
“He’s a dynamic batsman who strikes a good ball and also has the ability to swing the ball and bowl with some pace.
“Dan has come through Cardiff MCCU and the links we have with them are very good. We monitor a lot of the players who come through there so to get a player from that system is good for both of us.
“Mark O’Leary runs a very good cricket programme and they produce some very good cricketers.
“We’ve put quite a few of our staff players through the system over the years and it gives players a fantastic opportunity to get a degree and play high quality cricket.”

“It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks for him having scored a hundred against Sussex and 95 against Glamorgan, followed by handing in his dissertation and signing his first professional contract.
“Dan is an exciting player who works extremely hard. He has improved his game a great deal over the last three years, while also completing his degree and has developed as a person and a performer on and off the field in that time.
“This shows what the scheme at Cardiff MCCU is all about. It allows young players to be put in the shop window to show off their talent.”
