Glamorgan Sign Young Left-Arm Spinner Romano Franco for the Metro Bank One-Day Cup

Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of left-arm spinner Romano Franco for the duration of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Young left-arm spinner Romano Franco has been drafted in to the Metro Bank One-Day Cup squad after impressive performances for the Academy and 2nd XI sides. First impressing the Glamorgan coaches in the North Wales Premier Cricket League for Hawarden Park Cricket Club, Romano was selected in the Glamorgan Academy last winter. After picking up wickets with his left-arm orthodox bowling for Wales National County and Glamorgan 2nd XI, Romano has been offered his first professional contract.

Speaking on his signing, Romano said:

"I am very excited to wear the Glamorgan shirt in the 50-over competition. Lots of nerves as well, but I am looking forward to getting out there in the field tomorrow.

"To be honest, my transition from playing club cricket in north Wales to now signing for Glamorgan has been very smooth, thanks to some great coaches in the setup. The likes of Darren (Darren Thomas), Claydes (Michael Clayden) and Sparky (Mark O'Leary), who have helped me through age-group cricket and 2nd team cricket, Shawes (Adrian Shaw) and Watty (Steve Watkin) as well."

Romano has been training with the 1st team this summer at Sophia Gardens every opportunity he gets.

"It's a great atmosphere to be part of. They're a great bunch of lads, very inclusive and always a great laugh. Obviously, playing with the likes of Billy Root and Eddie Byrom in the 2nd XI this season helped, they were like a dad to me in the group, taking me in and helping me out.

I am very excited to play with Kiran, in particular. Always admired his batting and captaincy."

Glamorgan start the defence of their Metro Bank One-Day Cup title tomorrow at Neath Cricket Club against Hampshire.
