Head Coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad for Glamorgan's final pre-season friendly against Cardiff UCCE.

The Welsh county face the Cardiff UCCE students in a three-day non-first-class friendly starting tomorrow at Sophia Gardens.

Maynard has selected a full-strength squad for Glamorgan's final match in preparation for the new season, starting at home against Gloucestershire on Thursday 6th April.

David Lloyd captains the side which includes overseas star Colin Ingram and new signing Harry Podmore who will play for Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens for the first time since 2016 tomorrow.

Last season's top run scorer, Sam Northeast also features for Glamorgan as they gear up for the new campaign.

View from the camp - David Lloyd

"We’re looking forward to our final pre-season game against Cardiff UCCE who always give us a good test.

"We've picked a strong squad for the fixture to give ourselves the best preparation for next week's home opener in the County Championship against Gloucestershire.

"It's been a really positive pre-season schedule for us and we're looking to take this momentum with us into the new season."

Head-to-head - Glamorgan vs Cardiff UCCE

In recent years, the students from the various University Cricketing Centres of Excellence have played under the umbrella of the MCC, with several of the undergraduates, such as Glamorgan’s Dan Douthwaite, using the scheme as a stepping stone into county cricket. Following the end of this sponsorship deal with the MCC, the students’ team has reverted back to its original name, as used in the inaugural contest between the two teams back in 2001.

Glamorgan won this contest by the handsome margin of 140 runs with opening batsman Alun Evans scoring 137. The Glamorgan batsmen also had a field day in the drawn contest in 2004 with Michael Powell posting an imperious 201, whilst David Hemp made 138 as the Welsh county amassed 586-9. The following year, Glamorgan made 603, but the contest ended in a draw, with their most emphatic victory coming during 2011 when they won by 281 runs as the students were dismissed for 46 with seam bowler Huw Waters claiming 5/6.
