Glamorgan take on Durham in the first of two fixtures at The Gnoll

7 Aug 2023 | Cricket

Head Coach David Harrison has named a 14-player squad for Glamorgan's Metro Bank One Day Cup match against Durham at Neath CC.

During his magnificent innings at Derby, Colin Ingram sustained a calf strain and has been rested for tomorrow's match as a precaution.

Also rested is seamer Jamie McIlroy who has been a key member of the Welsh county's bowling attack across all formats this year, taking 33 wickets.

Coming into the squad are Sam Northeast, Timm van der Gugten and Ruaidhri Smith. Northeast's last outing in List A cricket saw him set a record score by an individual for Glamorgan as he scored 177* in our final One Day Cup match last season at New Road against Worcestershire.

Last time out, Glamorgan earned their first win in the Metro Bank One Day Cup as they chased down a target of 299 against Derbyshire. 19-year-old Ben Kellaway took his first three wickets in professional cricket as Derbyshire posted a first-innings score of 298/8.

Ingram led the chase for the Welsh county, scoring 115* as Glamorgan reached the target with 17 balls and seven wickets to spare to get themselves up and running in the tournament.

Tomorrow's visitors Durham have started the campaign in similar fashion with a defeat against Worcestershire Rapids first up, before a win at Hove against Sussex.

In their victory, Durham posted a mammoth 427/9 batting first, with centuries from Alex Lees and David Bedingham. Wickets were shared between the bowling attack as Durham held Sussex to 295/9 to complete a 132-run victory.

View from the Camp - Kiran Carlson

"There were plenty of positives to take from the Worcestershire game and I thought we played really well at Derby to come home with the win. We restricted them really well and kept fighting right until the end of the innings to keep them below 300 and then Colin (Ingram) played superbly to chase it down.

"He's obviously going to be a big miss with his calf strain but we have good strength in depth with Sam (Northeast) and Timm (van der Gugten) coming back into the side. I think we're building nicely and hopefully, we can keep that going in Neath.

"It's always exciting to play at our out-grounds and I'm sure there'll be a brilliant atmosphere like last year".

Head-to-Head - Glamorgan vs Durham

15 Sept 2007 at Chester-le-Street - Durham won by 70 runs.
22 July 2008 at Chester-le-Street - Durham won by 44 runs.
10 June 2012 at Colwyn Bay - Glamorgan won by 15 runs.
12 Aug 2012 at Chester-le-Street - Durham won by 59 runs.
8 Aug 2014 at Sophia Gardens - Durham won by 52 runs.
19 Aug 2021 at Trent Bridge - Glamorgan won by 58 runs.

Durham had been the victors in 2014 on their last visit to play a List A game in Wales, with the contest at Sophia Gardens seeing Paul Collingwood claim 4/13 and Graham Onions 4/48, with the only Glamorgan resistance coming from Jacques Rudolph who made 61.

The teams met twice in List A games in 2012 with Glamorgan winning the first game at Colwyn Bay by 15 runs after a fine new ball spell by paceman Simon Jones. The return contest at Chester-le-Street saw Mark Wallace complete his maiden one-day hundred, but it was in a losing cause as Durham recorded a 59-run victory. Prior to that, the two sides had not met since September 2007 when Durham were victorious in a National League game at Chester-le-Street by 70 runs.
