ECB today announced England Lions will host New Zealand 'A' and Sri Lanka 'A' in a triangular One-Day series later this summer, with Glamorgan playing the touring Sri Lanka side in Cardiff on 2nd August.
As well as Glamorgan Sri Lanka 'A' will also take on the Unicorns, Durham, Yorkshire and Hampshire as part of their tour while New Zealand 'A' will play Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Kent and Surrey as part of their programme.
Mark Wallace who played out in Sri Lanka in the Youth World Cup in 1999/2000 as well as in a England A tour in 2002, said: I played out in Sri Lanka for England A a few years ago, I remember it was certainly hot, but above all I remember how much the supporters in Sri Lanka love their cricket, they are great people, very hospitable and the team gave us a tough match.
It's been a while since Glamorgan played against a full international touring side, so it will be an exciting challenge.
At any stage of your career you can learn by watching quality opposition players and the way they play the game. Games like this are so good for our young players in particular, while the rest of us will look forward to testing ourselves against some quality batsmen and bowlers that we have not have played before.
Glamorgan have met Sri Lanka A twice before - both in July 2004 with the tourists winning a one-day match at Cardiff by 141 runs before completing a four wicket victory in a three-day contest a fortnight later at Swansea.
The Welsh county have also met the A teams from several other Test-playing nations, including those from South Africa at Cardiff in 1996, India in 2003 at Swansea, Bangladesh at Abergavenny in 2005, and the West Indies at Ebbw Vale in a one-day game in 2006, plus a three-day contest at the SWALEC Stadium in 2010, with the latter match being the last time the Welsh county were in action against international opponents.
Tickets for the Glamorgan v Sri Lanka A match will be included in the membership for all 125 Club members, as well as Premier, Annual, One-Day and Young Buds members. Club Player members or Country members will be able to use one of their match day ticket vouchers for entry without further charge. Ticket prices to be announced in due course.
