Glamorgan meet the Essex Eagles in their next game in the Vitality Blast, with the T20 contest starting at 1430 at Sophia Gardens on Sunday, 13 June (writes Andrew Hignell)
The Welsh county will be looking to bounce back after their four-run defeat at the hands of Gloucestershire at Cardiff on Thursday evening and against a team who have not beaten them in T20 cricket since June 2016 at Sophia Gardens when 42 by Jesse Ryder and 41 from Tom Westley saw the Eagles to a seven-wicket victory.
Since 2016 the Welsh county have been victorious against the Eagles in all three of their T20 matches where the weather has not intervened, as seen in the list below:
July 16th, 2017 at Chelmsford - Glamorgan won by 5 wickets
July 23rd, 2017 at Cardiff - Match Abandoned
July 13th, 2018 at Chelmsford - Glamorgan won by 2 wickets
Aug 7th, 2018 at Cardiff - Glamorgan won by 6 runs
Aug 9th, 2019 at Cardiff - No Result
Aug 16th, 2019 at Chelmsford - Match Abandoned
In the last completed game between the two sides, at Cardiff in 2018, a forthright 89 by Colin Ingram, plus a feisty 53 from Graham Wagg saw Glamorgan to victory by six runs. This followed a superb 114 by Colin at Chelmsford the previous year with the South African’s record against Essex in T20 cricket being 426 runs in seven innings with his tally also including an unbeaten 101 at Chelmsford in 2016.
Glamorgan’s victory at Sophia Gardens in 2018 was their first on home soil against the Eagles in the T20 competition, with the visitors having won five of their previous encounters at the Cardiff ground – in 2010, 2011,2014, 2015 and 2016.
