Glamorgan v Essex Eagles: Head-to-Head

6 May 2017 | Cricket
Glamorgan meet the Essex Eagles in their next match in the Royal London One-Day Cup, with the contest at The SSE SWALEC commencing on Sunday, May 7th at 11am.

After their heavy defeat to group leaders Somerset on Friday at the SSE SWALEC, Glamorgan welcome the Eagles to their headquarters, with the visitors currently in second-place in the group and also unbeaten in their three games so far this season in the 50 overs competition against Hampshire, Surrey and Gloucestershire.

However, Glamorgan posted a resounding victory by 146 runs over the Eagles on July 31st, 2015 when the two sides last met on Welsh soil in a List A one-day game. In that game two years ago, Colin Ingram made a masterly 130, whilst Graham Wagg weighted in with a quick-fire fifty as Glamorgan amassed a competitive total of 288 in their 50 overs. The visitors were never in the hunt as they subsided to 63/6 against the home seamers, and only a composed 47 from captain Ryan ten Doeschate spared the Eagles blushes of a heavier defeat.

Before that contest in 2015, Glamorgan and Essex had previously met in a List A game at Cardiff in 2011, but the contest at Glamorgan’s headquarters fell foul of the weather and failed to reach a positive outcome. In fact, the Eagles last victory in the Welsh capital in a 50 overs game came in May 2009 when Danish Kaneria’s leg-spin saw the Pakistani claim 4/16 as the visitors won by seven wickets.
